Aillwee Caves in the Burren area ….this is a limestone area… there is not much soil. The hills are covered in rock hence all the rock walls just to get rid of the rocks. One can imagine Tolkien’s stories and characters just by looking at the hills. Lots of flowers grow among the rocks in the area cultivating perfumeries. This area was the most devistated by the famine. There was a 35% death rate during famine never mind the ones that emigrated. During this time, the starving people of the area, in order to get a hangout from the government had to “work for the money” by building F”famine walls….. straight up the hillsides (when they were in a severely rough position).

Cliffs of Moher go for more than 8 miles…. almost 13 kms. The Cliffs of Moher are sea cliffs at the southwestern edge of the Burren region in County Clare, Ireland. At their southern end, they rise 120 metres above the Atlantic Ocean at Hag’s Head. Absolutely spectacular. It was so windy that tiny droplets from the waves, pelted us in the face at the top….. wow!

In Ballyellery…. “Lahinch” the famous golf course was started in 1892. It is the 2nd golf course built after St Andrews.

Next town south, is famous for surfing.
